7/12/20: What is your warrior spirit telling you today? Does she want to fight the good fight, but her hands are tied behind her back? Is she striving for a healing that is just out of reach? Mars and ChironRx are conjunct in Aries today, as are Lilith and the Moon. Adding to it, Mars/ChironRx are square Mercury in Cancer, contributing to thoughts of retreat as the only option, fueling the desire to be at home.
Maybe it’s the waning Moon who’s pulling the vigor from our blood. The New Moon in Cancer is 7/20 @1:33pm EDT, and until then, lunar energy urges us to retreat. We’ll need our strength to build for what approaches with that event, when the Sun/New Moon in Cancer will quincunx the South Node in Sagittarius, and the North Node in Gemini will quincunx SaturnRx in Capricorn. Our collectiveness is still working towards smashing the patterns of the past and building better ones, and the approaching New Moon will give us the next weapons we’ll need. But, we will have to have the power to use them. Recharge.
Here are some upcoming dates to be aware of:
- New Moon in Cancer, 7/20; reinvest energy in the home, in your mental health, and in nurturing yourself and others
- Full Moon in Aquarius, 8/3; fighting words will fly and standoffs made
- Mars conjunct Lilith in Aries (exact), 8/10; they’ll be square the JupRX/PlRx/SatRx in Cap group, so solutions might not be easy and definitely not ideal, but we’ll have some that are workable and worth fighting for
The JupiterRx/PlutoRx/SaturnRx conjunction in Capricorn is holding strong for the moment, and doing it’s heavy work. Big changes, longterm transformations, fundamental restructuring - all are in slow process. While Mercury isn’t retrograde anymore, Chiron now is through 12/15/2020. Chiron is our wounded healer, and is/will be taking his time. On a global scale, healing in regards to the current pandemic is on the uptick. That said, there are places where we need to go back, redo, reassess, and reapply remedies and actions. Be stubborn about the right things, the things that contribute to health, healing, and positive communication.
NeptuneRx in dreamy Pisces is trine the Sun in Cancer and sextile both JupiterRx and PlutoRx in Capricorn. This energy offers us escape in music, hobbies, and the home – and softens our egos, showing us detours around the roadblocks if we’re willing to relent the illusion of control over everything for a minute.
6/20/20: Happy Summer Solstice! The longest day of light and the seasonal turning from Spring to Summer, exact occurrence at 5:43pm EDT today. Following right behind early tomorrow morning, the New Moon will be at zero degrees Cancer, 6/21/2020, @2:42am EDT - Father’s Day!
As with every New Moon, the Sun and Moon will be conjunct, and with this one, both will be conjunct the North Node, who’s at 29 degrees airy Gemini. Sun/Moon will also be square Chiron in fiery Aries, and Neptune/Mars conjunction in watery Pisces.
What do these things mean??
- Our New Moon cycle of planting and planning is at the heightened first degree of sensitive Cancer, the sign of maternal waters, emotions, and nurturing; Cancer energy represents “home”, both figuratively and literally - what cycle is it time to begin in your abode, psyche, or both?
- North Node, our karmic path, is at the heightened last degree of communicative Gemini, which encourages us to think of the connections between our micro/private thoughts and experiences and how they affect and interact with the macro/larger world - are you personally evolving, or along for the collective ride?
- Mars/Neptune conjunct in disintegrating, vapory Pisces is still holding back action in its fullest sense; giving us time to truly dream of what we want before pushing forward when action-oriented Mars enters fiery Aries, his home base, less than a week later, on 6/27/2020 - are you receptive to the actions (about to be) needed?
- Chiron, the wounded healer, in the 9th degree of Aries … well, instead of summing it up, I’m going to quote directly from Inside Degrees by Ellias Lonsdale regarding the energy of this degree … because, wow*:
Roots of a tree entwined around the statue of a nude woman.
Bondage and freedom sometimes go hand in hand. The bondage is being true to pattern, predictable, caught in habits and tendencies perpetually left to grow like weeds. The freedom is that as you meet yourself starkly in the midst of these old, tired patterns of behavior, you come into touch with a quickening flame of self-recreation, stimulated and forced by being at the mercy of relentless patterns. This impulse to make yourself over is fervently strong, courageous, ready, and willing. The old stuff dies hard. You are therefore engaged in a pitched battle of a protracted kind between the retrogressive and progressive ideals, impulses, and desires. Both sides are so impassioned and sharply intent that this becomes a knockdown, dragout battle of wills. The atavistic backward-leaning will feels immune to change. The visionary forward-thrusting will feels moved by evolutionary forces never to give up. Eventually the future prevails over the past, but not before scars and multiple traumas mark the spot of fighting for your life against an implacable inward enemy who knows it will lose and fights all the harder accordingly.
The relevance of this translation of the energy of this zodiac degree that Chiron is in to our current socio-political circumstances is ridiculously clear. Once again, the universe conspires to help us. Can we, please, take the hands offered? It’s time to identify, accept, and change. Anyone who resists acknowledging that love has been and is being denied, in so many ways, is not only willfully ignorant, but truly at a loss for love inside themselves. It’s that wound that must be healed. Often, we heal ourselves by reaching out and addressing wounds in others. Caring acts of empathy are the way to treat an infected ego; doing what’s right for others when it’s not about you. There are many extended hands offering peace, change, and growth; they must be received, embraced.
At this New Moon on 6/21/2020, most of the personal planets, Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus (personal work), are in the first quarter of the zodiac (Aries-Cancer), which emphasizes the first steps on the path of the individual. We are each responsible and accountable for our actions, efforts, and lack thereof. And most of the outer planets, Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto/Neptune (collective work), are in the last quarter of the zodiac (Capricorn-Pisces), which emphasizes the path of the collective. They’re seeking big changes in society as a whole. The exceptions are Mars in Pisces and Uranus in Taurus; Mars is telling us decisive action isn’t quite here yet, and Uranus is telling us we must change what we value on an humanitarian level.
We should be going back over and readdressing the energies of Mercury (communication), Venus (love), Jupiter (higher learning), Saturn (foundation building), and Pluto (revolution and rebirth) - all currently retrograde.
The last push towards progress, and it’s a big one, is the asteroid Prometheus at 29 degrees Pisces. He’s conjunct Mars, and square Sun/Moon (New Moon) and the North and South Nodes. Do you remember his story from Greek mythology? He took pity on humankind and defied egotistic, autocratic Zeus (who wanted to keep humans in the dark ages and reliant on the gods) and secretly brought fire to humankind, which propelled them into the next phases of evolution. It made humans less subservient and gave them the knowledge they needed to begin a new way of life. And he did so knowing he would be caught, knowing the eternal punishment that would follow: he was chained to a mountainside, his liver savagely eaten each day by an eagle (symbol of Zeus), only for his immortality to regenerate him every night, over and over. For him, accepting the punishment was the sacrifice he was willing to make to help others.
With Prometheus in this position, at this time, the torch is extended. We’re at a turning point regarding our future evolution. What are we willing to receive? What are we willing to sacrifice? What is the next phase of evolution for humankind? For something gained, something must be given. I don’t have the answers, but we have to keep asking these questions. The universe is giving us this opportunity … again.
*The quoted source is a book that details an energetic tone of each and every degree in the zodiac. When a planet or other astrological entity is in a given degree, it helps explain how the energy of that position is expressed. Lonsdale uses the 1-30 degree system, whereas I use 0-29 system.
4/14/20: Ok, it’s only one day after my last post, but there’s just a LOT right now.
Here’s a pic taken at 5:40am this morning of the current stellar lineup. Starting on the right in Capricorn: the Moon, then to the left is (unseen) Pluto, then a bright Jupiter. Next to them in Aquarius: Saturn in the treetop, then Mars.
For today and ongoing, watch tempers!!! The Aries Sun, in the sign of the fiery god of war, is square: the Moon, Pluto, Jupiter, & Saturn. Efforts and actions are likely to be blocked, delayed, or slowed. Let them. This means more thought, planning, and careful strategizing is called for. Maybe the unrest of quarantine is setting in, the disquiet brought by the disruption of normal routines bothering you more than before. That’s ok, it means it’s time to adjust. Squares create tension, but tension that is mindfully honed along it’s natural lines creates power. When inevitable change happens, do you want your energy and resources scattered, or combined?
The Sun (ego) stays square all these planets through the Taurus New Moon on 4/22, when the Moon joins the Sun and is also square them. But the energy will be shifted to earthy, patient, fertile Taurus, ruled by graceful, harmonizing, lovely Venus, and typically a much calmer sign than Aries. Unless … triggered. And this Taurus New Moon, when the Sun (ego) and Moon (emotions) are conjunct disruptive, rebellious, unpredictable Uranus (who will also be square Mars), all square Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn … well, this is when the bull might wreck the china shop. And what a fragile place we’re all in, at present, this metaphorical china shop stocked precariously with health and wealth. Maybe it’s time things did get broken, so they can be replaced with better things.
Historically, the Week of Power is the Aries-Taurus cusp from 4/17-4/23, and a bunch of momentous events have happened, and a bunch of significant people have been born and/or died during that week. The birth of Hitler, Muhammad, Napoleon III, and birth and death of Shakespeare; the events of Columbine, the start of the American Revolution, the Oklahoma city bombing, the founding of Rome … are all found during the Week of Power. Go to onthisday.com and slide down that rabbit hole of history – it’s too much to list here!
Mercury in Aries is traveling over the Chiron/Lilith conjunction that is, until 4/16, still square the Nodes, and Mercury is sextile Venus in Gemini, and Mars and Saturn in Aquarius. So not only is Venus in Gemini sextile the Mercury/Chiron/Lilith conjunction, but she is also trine Mars and Saturn. This helps us communicate what needs to be communicated regarding our collective health issues right now, and also how to begin healing our economy. Listen to the experts … the actual experts.
Bottom line, we’re, collectively, already building a massive reserve of energy even before we get to the dates of 4/17-4/23. And remember, the Taurus New Moon is 4/22, so we are talking about a huge, huge opportunity to use the Earth energy of this event in combination with the Uranian energy of innovation, inspiration, and humanitarianism to reset, reground, plant a new or different garden. The seeds of these next couple of weeks will be growing our future. How can this be done well?
4/13/20: It’s Monday, the 13th … I feel like that should be a thing. I know Friday, the 13th, gets all the attention, but, after all, Monday is “Moon day” and 1+3=4, the number of the Fourth House, where the Moon is the ruler of:
- the sign of Cancer
- our nurturing needs and offerings
- our psyches (mental spaces) and our homes (physical spaces)
- and how maternal energy is represented in our lives.
The number of the Moon is 2, which is 4 split in half. So, maybe we should take Monday the 13th as an opportunity to “take two” and reflect on our emotions. Right now, the Moon is opposite its natural setting in watery, Moon-ruled Cancer and resides in earthy, Saturn-ruled Capricorn, giving us a chance to rebuild the foundations of our emotions. What are the cornerstones of your emotion-scape? What is the house of your psyche built on? The Moon will enter the third quarter tomorrow as it wanes towards a Taurus New Moon on 4/22/2020, at 10:27pm EDT, to help us rebirth our intentions and plans. The Sun and Moon will be conjunct Uranus in Taurus on 4/22, as well, which will invite inspiration and epiphany to help us solve some of our more stubborn issues.
As you use this opportunity to “take two”, what will you notice? Here are a few things to ruminate on:
- What is your current relationship with your domicile, your physical home?
- How are you feeling psychologically?
- Are your basic needs being met? How about your emotional ones?
- Are you fairly giving and getting nurturing? Do you feel cared for, and are you caring for others? Maybe … too much?
- What is your current perspective on Mother Earth, and (how) has it changed due to recent events?
Aside from the introspection that Monday, the 13th, can bring you – there are some other things looming now. I mentioned in the 3/16/2020 post that the T-square formed by a conjunction of Lilith and Chiron in Aries squaring the North Node (in Cancer) and South Node (in Capricorn) will be ended on 4/16. That’s soon. It will bring some relief to this collective epidemic we’re dealing with. Lilith and Chiron will stay conjunct until the morning of 5/27/2020, but at least the squares of their conjunction to the Nodes will be done this week. Translated, this means that the brunt of our collective karmic experience, medically, will begin to look better after 4/16. Lilith and Chiron still have work to do together (until 5/27, remember) because the dark feminine needs healing. There’s a lot going on in the sky between Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, and Mars that will keep things from looking or feeling better financially and governmentally for a while, but at least the collective health aspect will turn around first.
When the Nodes move from Cancer/Capricorn to Gemini/Sagittarius on 5/5/2020, let that be part of your Cinco de Mayo celebrating. At that time, the Moon will be in party-throwing, super-social Libra, so hopefully people can gather in person (even if the number is limited) and relegate Zoom get togethers to the meme-iverse. The Scorpio Full Moon will be two days later on 5/7, so there will be plenty of feelings for change, even revolution, brewing by then.
By now, I’m assuming most people have read the articles highlighting some of the positive changes that are occurring due to people staying put. Here are a few, if you’re interested: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/04/coronavirus-pandemic-earth-pollution-noise/609316/ , https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/01/science/coronavirus-animals-wildlife-goats.html , https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/27/europe/europe-pollution-decline-coronavirus-lockdown-intl/index.html , https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200326-covid-19-the-impact-of-coronavirus-on-the-environment .
3/16/20: In my last Current Sky post, I mentioned the T-square involving the North and South Nodes and a conjunction of Lilith and Chiron. Because this is a big contributor (along with a few other energies) to our global issues, I want to expand ….
The North and South Nodes are the head and tail (respectively) of the dragon of karma for us individually, and collectively. Because I’m not looking at each of your charts individually at the moment, I’ll defer to the collective. The North Node is where we should focus and strive to master our energy, and the South Node is what we karmically brought with us from before as skills/talents, but NOT what will help us progress spiritually. We have to use what we have to get what we want. Get it?
So, the South Node is currently in Capricorn. Capricorn is Father Time/Cronos/Saturn/structure/rules/authority … basically, daddy issues. We have a massive relatively recent history as humans abiding by the patriarchy. Some of it works, a lot of it doesn’t. Any time the overall balance is shifted … well, you know - it rebalances. And that’s where we are now. The North Node is in Mama-ville, in Cancer. Cancer is the Moon Mother/goddess of cycles/nurturing/gestating/caring. And that’s what we need now. Being quarantined can very well be likened to a period of gestation, so we all need to be very aware and careful of what we’re growing. Let’s be wise, let’s be attentive, let’s use the knowledge we have to grow the baby - our future - in the best way possible.
I’ve written in previous posts about the coming rebalancing of the yin-yang/feminine-masculine/receptive-active dynamic. Guess what: we’re in it now. This is not about woman vs man (please). EVERY PERSON has this balance within themselves, and it’s up to us individually to make this work collectively. Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn are now conjunct in Capricorn. The entire sky is practically begging us to change – and giving us good energy to do so with masculine Mars and kingly Jupiter trine loving Venus in earthy, feminine Taurus. Let’s take care of each other through the systems (Capricorn) that are in place, and consider future systems that might work even better. Uranus in Taurus will continue to surprise financially and materially through the next few years, as our stock market is discovering. Look for inspiration, epiphanies, and opportunities; they’ll be there.
Lilith is our dark feminine. She’s not the socially acceptable, attractive, sexy woman that Venus is. Lilith is the bitch, the seductress, the murderous one who uses her wiles. And don’t go assigning those traits only to females; we all known men with those qualities, too. Again, we ALL have these energies inside to varying degrees, whether we example them or project them onto others. It’s said that a woman’s weapon is poison, and what could a virus be but a version of poison? Lilith is conjunct Chiron, the wounded healer. He’s the demigod centaur who couldn’t heal himself, but could only heal others in his efforts to find his own cure. Chiron in our charts represents our most wounded place, and where we are most able to help others. Right now, Lilith and Chiron are together in Aries, the god of war. We are at war (Aries) with a virus (poison/Lilith) that challenges the old (Capricorn) to give birth to the new (Cancer) in the realm of caring about the health of others (Chiron).
It’s entirely possible that our current structures of government, health, and education could change as a result of the current conditions. And it always seems to take drastic times for drastic measures. Mother Nature is a disciplinarian. As a child, did you listen more to your mother when she told you to do something, or did you listen more when you got spanked? I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, I’m stating a reality. How can we reimagine the way our governmental, healthcare, and educational systems operate? What else can we protect/legislate, prepare for/care for, and teach/learn?
Isn’t the best motivator to think outside of the box, to be put in one?
To end on a reassuring note, the T-square between North/South Nodes in Cancer/Capricorn and Lilith/Chiron in Aries will be fully done in mid April. With the cessation of that tension regarding health, we’ll then be dealing with squares of the above mentioned planets in Capricorn to Uranus in Taurus, which will pose more challenging scenarios regarding our world economy … but we’ll get into that later.
